Hazrat Imam Shaafi’ee Raziallah tala anhu was born 150H in gaza [present day occupied by Israel] His full name is Abu Abdullah Muhammed ibn Idrees Ash-Shaafi’ee.

Hazrat Syedna Imam Shaafi’ee belonged to the respected tribe of Quraish.This is the same tribe to which Hazrat Muhammed ï·º belongs this is a special significance [rutba and nisbat] of hazrat imam among all other four imams.His father name is Hazrat Sayeb who was with mushrikeen at the time of Gazwa e Badar and was a prisoner of war and payed fine[fidya] for his release and then embraced Islam.

His father departed this world when he was very young [2 years old] His mother name was Hazrat Fatima bint Abdullah mohuz  She is the great grand daughter of Hazrat syedna Imam Hasan mujtaba Raziallah tala anhu. At the very young age of two years he migrated along with mother to Mecca mukarama where he grew up. He studied under Muslim ibn Khalid az Zanji rahmatuallah tala alaih who is thus considered to be the first teacher of Hazrat Imam Shaafi’ee Raziallah tala anhu.

It is said that Imam Shaafi’ee Raziallah tala anhu memorized the Holy Quran at the age of seven then he memorized Imam Malik`s book of theology Al-Moutta [the approved] at the age of 10 years.

At the age of around thirteen he went to Madina Munnawara shareef and learned under Hazrat Imam Malik ibn Anas Raziallahtala anhu Hazrat Imam Malik was very impressed by his student`s memory and intelligence. He learned from many scholars of his time and became an expert of fiqh [Islamic theology].

Yemni trouble [Fitna]:At the age of thirty Hazrat Imam was appointed as the governor of Najran city of Yemen by Abbasid regime. He proved to be a just and extremely good administrator but soon became a target of factional jealousy and accused of aiding the Alids in an Alid revolt.

And was thus summoned in chains to the caliph Harun rasheed at Raqqa city. Whilst other conspirators were put to death Hazrat Imam`s eloquent defense convinced the caliph to dismiss the charge. It was postulated that this unfortunate incident impelled hazrat Imam to devote rest of his career to legal studies and theology and philosophy, never again to seek government service.

Travel to Mecca: Hazrat Imam eventually left Baghdad for Mecca in 804 CE.In Mecca He began to lecture in the sacred mosque, leaving a deep impression on many students of law, including the famous Hanbali jurist Hazrat Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal.

Hazrat Imam returned to Baghdad in 810CE. By this time his stature as a jurist had grown sufficiently to establish an independent line of legal speculation and jurisprudence.

In 814 CE Hazrat Imam left Baghdad for Egypt.

Hazrat Imam`s famous books on theology is Masnad e Shaafi’ee. and Alrissala.

Hazrat Imam`s routine of night: Hazrat Rabie bin Sulaiman writes that Hazrat Imam Shaafi’ee raziallah tala anhu use to divide the night in three parts in first part He use to write and study, in second part he use to offer naffil salat, and rested in the third part of the night.

Hazrat Imam departed from this world on 30th Rajab ul marajab 204 H in the evening of jumma after namaz e maghrib.
